Day Habilitation and Pre-Vocational Services

The Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services is committed to working collaboratively with case managers and providers. We appreciate the hands-on and coordinated efforts from case managers and providers. As part of this commitment, BDDS has the following information of interest:

The Indiana Health Coverage Programs posted an important update for BDDS Day Habilitation and Prevocational Services providers. BT202336 announced that effective May 1, 2023, additional modifiers will be added for day habilitation and prevocational services, to indicate where the service was provided to the member.

The previous billing guidance for these services will be end dated effective April 30, 2023. When billing for prevocational or day habilitation services that occur on or after May 1, 2023, be sure to include the appropriate modifier for the location where the service was provided. If the service was provided in a facility, select UF as the modifier. If the service was provided in a community setting, select UG as the modifier.

Claims submitted for dates of service on or after May 1, 2023, that do not include one of the new modifiers for these services will be denied. Service Authorizations/Notices of Action issued on or after May 1, 2023, will contain a note regarding the new modifier choices to be used when billing.

For previously approved services, providers will not receive updated SAs/NOAs until the service period has expired or until other changes are made to the services for the member; however, the UF or UG modifier should be included for these previously approved services as described in this bulletin.

Please refer to BT202336 for more information.
