Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services Mandatory Provider Training: Trauma-Informed Care

The Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services is committed to supporting our provider network in working toward a true person-centered system which empowers an individual to direct their services to the greatest extent possible.

As part of that commitment, BDDS is hosting a web-based training opportunity focused on trauma-informed care. The speaker will be Dr. Karyn Harvey, who has worked as a clinician in the field of intellectual disabilities for over 35 years. She has her Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Maryland and regularly conducts trainings on trauma-informed support for people with IDD, trauma-informed leadership, and trauma-informed behavioral interventions for both state and individual organizations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Participants will learn about:

  • Sources of trauma for people with intellectual disabilities and the effects of those traumas
  • The process of healing and the ways in which staff working with people with ID can facilitate healing
  • The ways in which people can move forward and pursue fulfillment and happiness in their lives

This opportunity is being provided at no cost to participants and is mandatory for all current Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services home-and community-based services providers. This means if your organization is a current BDDS service provider of any home-and community-based service, it is required that an executive level staff member of your organization attend this training. Sign-up, participation and completion of this training will be verified and monitored throughout the training.

All others, including individuals with disabilities, program managers, direct support professionals, case managers and families are welcome to attend.

Advance registration is required to receive a link to join. Please do not share the login information or share your email address with others or use it to register other people. To verify attendance virtually, Zoom uses your email address. If you share it with others, attendance cannot be verified. If you call in instead of using the login information, Zoom will not track your attendance. You must have an account with Zoom (free to register) and it should be the same email address used to register for ease of verification and login.

We are offering this training at three different times. Please be aware that each session is capped at 500 attendees, so if your first choice is full, please choose another date.

Note: Only the July 6 training will be entirely live due to the speaker’s availability.
