Empower Care Act Would Extend Money Follows the Person for Five Years

The Money Follows the Person (MFP) program has helped over 75,000 people with chronic conditions and disabilities transition from nursing homes and institutions back into the community. MFP was designed to increase the use of home and community-based services and reduce the use of institutionally-based services. MFP expired in 2016. However, a bill has been introduced in Congress that would fund MFP for the next five years.

The EMPOWER Care Act (S. 2227) would provided $450 million in funding for MFP per year until 2022. Back in December, the bill was referred to the Committee on Finance and is still awaiting a hearing. You can read the full text here: http://fifthfreedom.org/l/pw.
