Upcoming free and in-person learning opportunities: Positive Approaches for People with Dual Diagnoses
The Division of Disability and Rehabilitative is challenging and changing cultural expectations of individuals with disabilities as part of a system transformation focused on building system capacity to support individuals as the primary drivers of their lives.
One specific focus is our capacity building efforts to foster an improved culture of positive behavioral supports that recognizes the impact of dual diagnosis on individuals. In an effort to highlight and implement best practice strategies that will maximize positive outcomes across life domains for people we support, BDS is making you aware of upcoming, free, in-person learning opportunities, titled “Positive Approaches for Individuals with Dual Diagnoses”. These opportunities will specifically address the behavioral and mental health needs of those supported through home and community-based service models, as well as covering the history of behavioral supports and foundational principles. We invite you to participate in one of these regional learning opportunities offered through two of our IPP Grantee partners and conducted by trainers Dr. Jim Wiltz and Kelly Hartman. It is estimated that half of all people with developmental and intellectual disabilities are also diagnosed with mental health conditions. The consideration of positive approaches, person centeredness, and the effects of trauma are revolutionizing national best practices around behavior change, and we are excited to share this with you.
Participation in these sessions will not only be a great opportunity for learning and discussion but will allow participants (the first 100 attendees in each session) to receive a $75 VISA gift card! Each session will be three hours and held from 1p.m.-4 p.m. local time. This will be two hours of training with one hour of Q&A as part of a moderated panel discussion with local behavioral health professionals, one local Behavioral Consultant and one representative from the local community mental health provider. Please consider this communication as a SAVE THE DATE for the following locations across the state. This opportunity will be open to all interested parties including individuals, providers, case managers, parents, family members, and other people who support individuals with behavioral challenges and co-occurring mental health challenges.
